I start taking a combined ballet and jazz class next monday (dec 3) the class dress code is guys and girls must wear leotards and tights with no restrictions on color. I asked my instructor about it and she said that I just to go the a dance store and they will get me setup with everything. We drove 30 miles to the only dance supplier within almost 200 miles. The problem was they do not keep mens stuff in stock other than some shoes. They said they could order me a leotard and tights but it would take 7-10 days and class starts in a couple days. The sales lady sold me a black tank leo for ladies and a couple pairs of bodywrappers adaptable foot and full foot skintone and black tights , she said they are unisex actually, with a pair of small bike shorts to go over the leotard tights and dance belt. Will this work as a temporary fix till I can get other mens stuff in, or does anyone have any suggestions? I do have the shoes i need for class just not sure on the clothing?
Will these tights work for my class?
Hey there, I am in almost the same boat as you, I am going to be starting ballet classes very soon and don%26#039;t know what I need to have or really anything else about it. But I am glad to see that there is another guy going through this at the same time, so good luck with your classes, hope that you enjoy them as much as I think that I will.
Reply:Everything that the dance store sold you will work for your class. The leotard might not fit perfect cause it is a womens leotard and not a mens but the tights will work fine. Just beware that tights sold as womens/unisex are normally a little more transparent than mens tights so you might be able to see through them a little bit. Enjoy you classes by the way.
Reply:A while back I asked a question about getting skin tone stirrup tights for men, but no one makes them so the only usable suggestion on here was to get womens stirrup tights. None of the girls on my team thought it was weird or even noticed i was wearing them. So wearing the Bodywrappers tights wont be a big deal other than the fact that they are a little more see through then true mens tights. The one thing I do have to say is be careful with the womens leo, they are not built with a man in mind and probably will not be comfortable for long periods of time. Good luck with your new adventure in the arts.
Reply:your prob fine and if its not right ask the instuctor what to where when you go.. and shop online for dance stuff besdie for shoe dont do that unles you a dance shoe expert.
Reply:I have the same experience as Gina does. In my classes the men wore black tights (more like leggings because they%26#039;re more opaque than women%26#039;s tights) and I white tee, usually like a nice undershirt. That was for ballet though, for jazz they wore jazz pants and any top they were comfortable in. I think you%26#039;ll be fine though. Good luck, I hope you enjoy dancing
Reply:I can%26#039;t believe your studio requires men to wear leotards. General male uniform is black tights, a dance belt, and a fitted white op. Double check before you go buying too much.
Reply:The leotards for men thing is kind of weird. The modern dance class I was in we wore black tights and a dance belt and a t-shirt or tank top tucked in or tied at the waist.
Reply:That sounds fine. In my experience, men wear tights with a dance belt, black shoes, and a white, tight-fitting t-shirt. I%26#039;ve actually never seen a man in a leotard, but if that%26#039;s what your studio requires, that should be fine as long as it all fits.
